Seminar held on use of technology in strict enforcement of law
A seminar on 'Using technology with strict enforcement of laws to ensure safe food' was organized at the National Museum of Science and Technology on Tuesday. Officials of the ministry, Bangladesh Bank, police officers and various government agencies and professional organizations participated in the event.
As trainees of 'BIGM', the officers also visited the National Museum of Science and Technology besides participating in the seminar. Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, Director General of Museum said, "Food security does not mean food sufficiency. It is a big challenge to keep the quality and nutritional food that is necessary for health, free from poisons, chemicals and germs. Strict rule of law is essential in this regard. Besides, the application of modern technology is also essential. Along with this, there is a need to change people's eating habits.
He also said, avoiding the tendency to eat juice, you should eat fruit directly instead of juice. Because the fruit is rich in fiber and its nutritional value is very high. Antioxidants are reduced by 23%-54% in juice and juice contains 35% more sugar, which is not healthy. Besides, in food preservation system, food quality can be maintained by following natural methods instead of refrigerators. Food stored in the refrigerator for a long time is not healthy at all. Because a kind of bacteria is born in it.”
Senior Assistant Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Department of Ministry of Education Shatarupa Talukdar, Khulna Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Md. Atiqur Rahman (PPM) and Additional Director of Bangladesh Bank Shahida Sultana presented keynote speeches on the occasion.
The speakers opined on the need for concerted efforts by government agencies and mass public awareness to ensure safe food.
